Currently there are more than 70 research staff using 25 computers within the IMU. You can login to each of the computers using the same set of credentials (i.e. username & password). The IMU, Along with the A*CRC (A*STAR Computing Resouce Centre) maintains a shared network storage location that can be accessed from any computer in Immunos. The shared drive is organised hierarchically so that your data folder is within a folder named according to your PIs initials (e.g. my data folder "steve" is inside the "EBL" group folder). Please store your images inside your data folder. Any files on this drive will be automatically backed up once they have been on the shared drive for 24 hours. Files Not within a data folder will be deleted.
You should be able to read files from others within your group (but not change them), and write files only to your folder within your group's folder. There is also an "IMU" folder at the top level of the directory tree where you can put files, TEMPORARILY, that you wish to share with other users outside your group, and where you may find image related goodies placed there by the IMU. Note that data within the IMU folder will be deleted on a regular basis. At the top level there is alos a "home" folder, in which you will find a folder with your username. Please do not delete this folder, or use it to store data.
Mounting the shared IMB network drive on your computer
From a Macintosh:
1.) In the Finder, choose "Go->Connect to Server..." (keyboard shortcut, ⌘K).
2.) In the "Connect to Server" window which pops up, enter "smb://borneo.imb.a-star.edu.sg" in the "Server Address:" field, then click "Connect".
3.) In the authentication window that appears, make sure you are connecting as a "Registered User", then type your IMU username and password into the "Name:" and "Password:" fields. No need for any domain information. Click "Connect" then choose "IMB" as the volume you want to mount (unless you really want the SIgN volume, but as you can guess, that's a volume for users from SIgN.)
4.) A new drive appears on your desktop labelled "IMB". Open as usual

From any Linux based machine:
1.) The IMB or SIgN share is automatically mounted as "/IMB" or "/SIgN" using the credentials you supply when you login to the computer.
From any Windows computer in the BMSI domain (i.e. your desktop in the immunos building).

1.) In any open Windows explorer window, choose "Tools->Map Newtork Drive"
2.) In the popup window that appears, select any convenient drive letter (e.g. Z:), then type "\\borneo.imb.a-star.edu.sg\imb" (no quotes) into the field titled "Folder". Tick the box marked "Reconnect at logon" if you wish to have this drive appear each time you login.
3. You must click on the link that says "Connect using a different user name", as you are logged into your computer using your BMSI credentials, and you must login to the IMU network drive using your IMU credentials.
4. In the window that pops up asking for your username and password, use your IMU credentials. The domain is "DATASTORAGE". Your username is therefore: "DATASTORAGE\username" (e.g. mine is DATATORAGE\steve). Remember this is your IMU username, the one you use to login to any of the microscope computers. In the password field, type your password. Click "OK" and then "Finish" in the first "Map Network Drive" popup window.
5.) A new drive mapped to your data on borneo should now appear either in your explorer window, or in a new explorer window.

From a Windows computer already part of the DATASTORAGE domain (i.e. any microscope computer or any workstation configured by the IMU).

1.) As above, but you don't have to reenter your credentials, as you are already logged into the computer using your IMU/DATASTORAGE credentials. So follow the above instructions, omitting step 3 and 4. After you enter the drive letter and Folder, just click "Finish".
