Sohail Ahmed received his B.Sc. (University of London) in 1979 and Ph.D. (University of Aberdeen) in 1982, both in Biochemistry. He carried out his post-doctoral studies at the University of California, Berkeley (1983), the Institute Pasteur, Paris (1985) and UCL, London (1986). In 1989 he was appointed a Lecturer at the Institute of Neurology, UCL, and a Senior Scientist in the Glaxo-IMCB group. In 1998, he was appointed Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Neurology, UCL. In 2002, he moved to Singapore and joined the Centre for Molecular Medicine (CMM) where he set up the Neural Stem Cell Laboratory within the Regenerative Medicine Programme. (CMM became part of the new IMB in April 2007.)
