Dr Simon Cool received his PhD from the University of Queensland, Australia in 1996. He then held a Faculty position at the School of Biomedical Sciences, the University of Queensland, Australia until 2003, when he joined the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology, A*STAR, Singapore as a Principal Investigator. In 2008, he joined the Institute of Medical Biology, A*STAR, Singapore. Currently, he is focused on developing novel glycosaminoglycan biomolecules that enhance orthopaedic wound repair and control adult human mesenchymal stem cell self-renewal. Dr Cool has filed numerous patent applications in the field of bone tissue engineering and has published over 60 peer-reviewed papers and fostered strong collaborations both nationally and internationally. He previously held the office of Treasurer, Australian & New Zealand Orthopaedic Research Society and is currently on the Editorial Board of Biomaterials, Stem Cells and Development and the Journal of Molecular Histology.
